This data privacy notice explains how the Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation will use, share and keep your personal information.
When you apply for a donation to the Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation your application may contain personal data informing us of your Charity’s point of contact. Your application may also include other personal information which might enable us to identify an individual.
The Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation is the data controller responsible for the safe keeping of your data.
When we refer to ‘we’, ‘our’, ‘us’ and the ‘Charitable Foundation’ we mean the Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation. When we refer to ‘Skipton’ and ‘the Society’ we mean Skipton Building Society.

- Any feedback or questions from the charity from emails or letters
- Case studies of the organisations/ individuals who have benefited from donations
- Charity images which represents your charity.
Data we collect from accessible sources
- General information about your charity from internet searches
- Latest income from the Charity Commission website for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
- Information held on Companies House and/or the Charity Commission website.
Your data will be used to
- Administer and consider your charity’s application.
- Identify your charity for the purposes of assessing the charity’s application against our donations policy.
- Contact the charity with any queries and outcomes.
- Undertake checks on the charity as part of the application process on the basis that we have a legitimate interest in preventing fraud and money laundering, and to verify identity, in order to protect the Charitable Foundation and to comply with laws that apply to us.
- The images, logos and case studies will be used with your consent for the purposes of promoting your charity and the work of the Charitable Foundation.
Who we share your data with and why
Skipton and other third party software and application providers, provide IT system infrastructure, IT and administration support used by the Charitable Foundation for the purposes of processing and consideration by its trustees of applications and the storing of applicant’s data, who may have sight of your personal data whilst providing such IT and administration support.
Skipton and such other third-party providers are not permitted to access or use the data for their own purposes.
Lawful Basis
The legal ground on which we use your personal data is our ‘legitimate interest ‘which means that the purpose is essential to the Charitable Foundation dealing with your application.
Where you have consented to the use of images, logos and case studies we will use the data for the purposes of promoting your charity and the work of the Charitable Foundation on www.skiptoncharitablefoundation.co.uk. Consent may be withdrawn at any time by contacting:

We will however continue to contact you regarding the administration of your existing application and relationship with us. We will not sell or share your information with third parties for their own purpose.
Retention of records
We retain your personal data for as long as is necessary to process, consider and administer your application. Unsuccessful applications will be retained for 6 months and successful applications for 12 months following the meeting where the application was presented to our trustees, after which all personal data will be destroyed if not required for queries or ongoing correspondence. Where you have consented to the use of images, logos and case studies, the data will remain in existing publications and on our website for 12 months from the date of upload onto our website.
